Visit almost any significant horror convention in America and you’ll find incredible examples of horror cosplay that rival what audiences see in films and television. The passion, craftsmanship, and imagination found within the horror cosplay community make it a natural fit for the genre.
Cosplay conventions offer everything a filmmaker could want in a horror setting: crowded hallways, vendor halls, after-hours gatherings, competitions, hidden identities, elaborate costumes, and thousands of passionate fans. The environment is already cinematic before a camera ever starts rolling. That’s one of the reasons Cosplay/er is taking a unique approach by filming portions of the movie at a real fan convention – St. Pete Comic Con 2027 on April 17-18 — allowing the film to capture the energy, excitement, and authenticity of the cosplay community in a way that simply can’t be recreated on a soundstage.
