Cosplay/er takes a unique approach to casting by looking beyond traditional actors and actively seeking talented cosplayers, performers, creators, theater actors, haunt actors, stunt performers, and entertainment professionals. Because the film is deeply connected to cosplay culture, the goal is to find people who already understand character portrayal, performance, and the energy of convention life.
In-person casting calls are planned for Sunshine City Scare 2026 (Aug. 15-16) and Holiday St. Pete 2026 (Nov. 21-22). Each event will feature a casting call for a minor role in the film while also providing the Cosplay/er team an opportunity to meet performers interested in supporting, featured, and larger character roles.
These convention casting calls are designed to give performers a chance to audition in person while allowing the production team to discover new talent from within the cosplay and fan convention communities. They also provide an opportunity to make a strong first impression and connect directly with members of the growing Cosplay/er team.
Individuals interested in featured and supporting speaking roles can submit audition applications online, which allow applicants from across the country to be considered.
While many of the film’s larger roles require acting experience, character development, and on-screen performance skills, some minor roles with only a few lines may be ideal opportunities for cosplayers with backgrounds in performance, theater, live entertainment, horror attractions, or character portrayal.
Cosplayers may have opportunities to appear as background convention attendees during scenes filmed at St. Pete Comic Con 2027, helping create the authentic convention atmosphere featured throughout the film. To avoid licensing issues, cosplayer extras may only use original characters (we love OCs!) and eligible public domain characters, such as Winnie-the-Pooh and Popeye. Learn more.
Filming portions of the movie at a real fan convention creates a unique opportunity for members of the cosplay community to become part of the film itself. The energy, creativity, and passion of real convention attendees will help bring the world of Cosplay/er to life in a way that simply cannot be recreated on a soundstage.
